Microblading, Microshading, Nano, Powder Brows... What's the difference?

There are so many names for the different types of techniques we as artists use to create the perfect brows, and it can admittedly become overwhelming. Nano brows are done
with a machine – some artists call this treatment digital hair stroke brows. The machine features an extremely fine needle, which vibrates and pierces the skin, depositing pigments in tiny dots that add up to strokes. The needle is flexible and thin, so it causes very little trauma to the skin.

Microblading is a manual technique. A hand-held tool that features a thin blade made up of 12-16 needles is dragged through the skin. The blade is dipped in pigment, and it’s deposited into the tiny cuts. The microblading blade is thin too, and some artists even use the same thickness as the nano-needle – 0.18. However, it’s not flexible, so there’s less control over pressure and the motion.

Blacksheep Brows & Beauty does not provide blade work, all PMU services are done with a machine.

Permanent Brows- Is it painful?

Levels of discomfort vary upon each individual’s pain threshold and sensitivity. To ensure maximum comfort during the procedure, a topical anesthetic (4-5%) Lidocaine and 2% Tetracaine) will be applied before and during your treatment. Please note, if you are on your menstrual cycle you may be more sensitive to plain. Sleep, stress and caffeine can also play a factor in pain sensitivity.

Permanent Brows- How long do results last?

Semi permanent pigments will fade over time naturally. Many different factors affect the life of the implanted pigment, such as, sun exposure, skin type, general health, hormones, medication, and immediate and long term aftercare. Results can last years, but most clients will require a touch-up every 1-2 years to refresh the color and the shape. Oilier skin types tend to fade quicker than drier sun types. Frequent smokers or those with iron deficiency anemia may have results fade sooner. Results vary with each individual.

Hairstrokes work best with clients with dry to normal skin types. Hairstokers on oiler skin types tend to heal softer and blurred. Clients with more natural existing hair will have more of a 3D look, whereas, clients with less hair will have more 2D look.

Permanent Brows- What is the tattooing healing process?

Healing time is approximately 10-14 days for the top layers of skin. Initially after the procedure, brows will be much darker, more saturated and thicker than what the final result will be once fully healed; it is important to understand that brows will become 10-15% thinner and up to 40% lighter. Between 4-6 weeks, the area and deeper layers of the skin will be fully healed and reveal the true shape and color. There can be some minor patchiness in healing between your first and second appointment - this is the purpose of your touch-up or “perfecting” appointment, which can be booked 6-8 weeks after the initial appointment. In some cases, clients may need a third appointment to achieve their desired results.

Permanent Brows-What will the final result look like?

Hairstrokes work best with clients with dry to normal skin types. Hairstokers on oiler skin types tend to heal softer and blurred. Clients with more natural existing hair will have more of a 3D look, whereas, clients with less hair will have more 2D look.

What should I do after the tattooing procedure?

Aftercare involves not touching your brows (picking, scratching, pulling) while they are healing and potentially scabbing/flaking for the first 7-10 days. Avoidance of excessive sun exposure, water, perspiration (working out), skin care products, makeup and exfoliation to the area is important so pigment and healing are not
disturbed. Detailed aftercare instructions will be given on the day of the appointment, as well as an aftercare kit with specific healing ointment to maintain the health and longevity of your new brows.

Waxing VS. Sugaring

Waxing and sugaring are often grouped together because both techniques lift hair from the root and have a longer effect on the skin than shaving. But truth be told, they're two very different techniques. With waxing strips of hard wax is used to remove your hair in the opposite direction of your follicle's growth pattern. The opposite happens with sugaring, where the hair is pulled in the natural direction of your follicle's growth pattern. Wax also tends to be hotter than sugaring, which is normally room temperature, so if you’re a baddie that is sensitive to wax temps, sugaring may be a better option for you!
